Roundtable on the Korean Peninsula and Geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific Region

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Netherlands and the Clingendael Institute were delighted to host an invitation-only panel discussion on the Korean Peninsula and Geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific Region on Friday, July 1 at Huys Clingendael in the Hague.

After opening remarks by Monika Sie Dhian Ho, General Director at the Clingendael Institute, and H.E. Yeondoo Jeong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, we considered the current security situation of the Korean Peninsula and the geopolitical implications for the wider Indo-Pacific region in an in-depth discussion with speakers:

  • Mark Versteden, Indo-Pacific Policy Advisor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands,
  • Eunjeong Cho, Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS) of the Republic of Korea,
  • Frans-Paul van der Putten, Coordinator of the Clingendael China Centre,
  • Friso Stevens, European University Institute (EUI) Specialist on East-Asia and China.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Yeondoo Jeong introduced the ROK government's efforts to achieve peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula through the complete denuclearisation of North Korea, and requested support for the ROK government's policy on the Korean Peninsula.

The Clingendael Institute looks forward to continuing to cooperate with the Korean embassy in the future.
