Strengthening Swedish diplomacy through joint training
This March, Clingendael Academy delivered a three-day, tailor-made training programme in Sweden in partnership with the Swedish Diplomatic Programme. The programme was designed to strengthen practical negotiation and intercultural-communication skills that are essential for diplomats operating in complex international environments.
What made this training particularly relevant for the participants was its strong focus on real-world application. Rather than only discussing concepts, the sessions were built around realistic diplomatic scenarios that reflect the challenges Swedish diplomats face in multilateral settings. This ensured that participants could connect the learning to their daily practice.
The third day focused on intercultural communication, an important competence in today’s diplomatic field. Participants deepened their awareness of cultural differences and developed practical tools to work more effectively across cultures. By linking intercultural insights directly to diplomatic practice, the training highlighted how cultural sensitivity can enhance both negotiation outcomes and professional relationships.
This training builds on the strong and ongoing collaboration between Clingendael Academy and the Swedish Diplomatic Programme. We are grateful for their trust, engagement, and excellent cooperation.
We look forward to continuing this valued partnership in the future.
