IPSI 2014 The Hague Symposium

This summer, the Clingendael Institute will once more welcome the IPSI Institute from Washington DC. This prestigious institute aims to empower the next generation of peacemakers. For the third time, IPSI will host its Symposium at the Clingendael Institute in the Hague.

The Clingendael Institute shares IPSI’s vision and aims due to their shared commitment to provide education and training in the theory and practice of post-conflict transitions and international justice. For four weeks, fifty emerging world leaders will participate in training sessions, lectures and debates on post-conflict transitions and international justice. As IPSI says it: “where others have failed, our graduates will succeed”.

International law & transitional justice skills

Through interactive learning sessions and practical case studies, the participants will learn from and discuss with leading politicians, scholars, advocates and practitioners how pragmatic peacebuilding works. They will also train their transitional justice skills. Since the history and workings of tribunals and courts will exhaustively be discussed, The Hague provides a unique location for this Summer School as the world capital of international law. Working visits to the International Criminal Court, Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia are organized, enabling students to see all that they have studied in practice.

The Clingendael Institute provides its unique and inspiring building and environment to facilitate the Symposium, so as to ensure a fruitful experience for the participants of this program. Also, one of the Clingendael negotiations experts will teach in the Symposium by training the future peacemakers how to negotiate and maximize their efforts in their future careers. Upon completion of the course, all participants will receive their Post-Graduate Certificate in “Post-Conflict Transitions & International Justice”. They will have enriched themselves with an enormous amount of knowledge and skills, and a wide network of fellow-minded friends and colleagues.

Do not forget to visit the Clingendael website regularly during the summer months for exclusive interviews with participants and teachers, and interesting reports and updates about the 2014 IPSI the Hague Symposium.
