Fostering connections during seminar for Chinese diplomats

At the end of October, Clingendael Academy successfully hosted its annual China seminar, welcoming diplomats from the People’s Republic of China. This year’s programme focused on constructive engagement and navigating challenges in key areas such as climate, trade, and economic relations.

The week-long seminar was marked by meaningful connections and rich exchanges, leaving a lasting impression on all participants and coordinators. The seminar served as a dynamic platform for lively discussions between Chinese diplomats and their Dutch and European counterparts. A highlight of the programme was the visit to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where participants emphasized the value of the connections established during this memorable day, viewing them as essential for fostering future collaboration.

In addition to engaging with diplomats and policy officers, participants also connected with academics and researchers to explore the seminar’s core topics and the broader future of multilateralism. Complementing these substantive discussions, the seminar included a hands-on workshop on intercultural communication — a skill Clingendael Academy considers essential for effective international cooperation.

Beyond its content-driven sessions, the programme also offered participants the opportunity to experience the Netherlands, offering insights in Dutch traditions and culture, which added a memorable cultural dimension to their visit.

Clingendael Academy is both proud and grateful for this fruitful collaboration. We deeply appreciated the participants’ open and constructive mindset throughout the programme and wish them every success in their future careers.
