From 13-16 February the Clingendael Institute participated in the Munich Security Conference. The MSC brings together high-level policy-makers and leading think tanks to look at a wide array of issues affecting European and global security. It will now be one of the first opportunities for a high-level US delegation to discuss the foreign policy priorities of the Trump administration in Europe with an international audience.

This year, Clingendael’s primary focus was on Ukraine. Among others, Clingendael organised an event at the MSC on Sunday titled “Deal-Makers or Deal Breakers? Negotiating an End to Russia’s War Against Ukraine”, where Monika Sie, Bob Deen and Julia Soldatiuk-Westerveld together with members of the Clingendael-led International Expert Group will discuss possibilities and pitfalls of a peace process with Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha and other high-level guests from across the world.

During the Townhall Bob Deen asked the following question to General Kellogg, the US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia.

"A ceasefire in Ukraine will be difficult to maintain. 'What is needed to monitor such a ceasefire and what happens if it's violated?''. Listen to the General's answer.

At the 2024 MSC, Clingendael organised an event on energy security.
