Clingendael Academy is proud to host senior diplomats from Indonesia

Clingendael

In February, Clingendael Academy had the honour to welcome again 10 senior diplomats from Indonesia. The programme kicked off with a thought provoking keynote speech by former Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Mr Tom de Bruijn. During the subsequent sessions of the intensive 7-day training programme, the participants reflected on themes as diverse as regional security in the Indo-Pacific, the role of technology and digitalisation in ASEAN-EU relations, international law and Indonesia – OECD cooperation.

One of the highlights of the programme was a ‘moonshot exercise’, a useful tool for strategic decision-making. In this exercise, the participants analysed possible future trends which are relevant for Indonesian foreign policy, more specifically in the field of its digital future and regional cooperation. They looked, in teams, at key success factors and presented possible scenarios for reaching their ‘moonshots’.

Another highlight was the workshop on leadership skills, provided by Clingendael Academy Director Ron Ton. In this workshop the participants reflected on different leadership styles and how they could apply them (or not) in their own professional context or unique situation, resulting in some stimulating discussions. The workshop was highly appreciated by the group, as is shown by this comment of one of the participants: “Excellent set of theory and analysis with new developments on leadership style.”

Beyond these sessions and workshops, the programme offered the participants the opportunity to connect with (top) diplomats and officers of the Netherlands MFA, ICC and OECD, enabling the participants to further expand their international networks.

Clingendael Academy wishes this batch of outstanding senior Indonesian diplomats all the best in their future professional and personal endeavours.
