31st edition of the Central Asia and Mongolia diplomatic training completed

Clingendael Academy recently concluded the 31st edition of its training programme for junior diplomats from Central Asia and Mongolia, welcoming participants from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Mongolia. This training programme aimed to deepen understanding of international relations and enhance diplomatic skills, with a strong emphasis on inter- and intra-regional cooperation.

The programme was structured into four modules covering the evolving role of diplomats, trends in international law, multilateralism and security cooperation, as well as economic stability and sustainability. Participants attended lectures on topics such as infrastructure programmes, cyber diplomacy, energy security, critical raw materials, and transboundary water cooperation. Throughout, the importance of strategic alliances and economic partnerships was highlighted.

Practical skills were a key focus, with sessions on international negotiations, intercultural communication, and presentation techniques. Working visits to institutions such as the Permanent Court of Arbitration, International Criminal Court, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons provided valuable real-world insights. Additional visits to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EU institutions in Brussels, including the EU External Action Service and NATO, offered a deeper understanding of Dutch and EU foreign policy priorities.

A highlight of the programme was the World Café exercise, where diplomats developed collaborative projects and policy proposals in economic, sustainability, and education cooperation in the region.

Clingendael Academy is proud of its ongoing partnership with Central Asia and Mongolia and remains committed to supporting the professional growth of diplomats of the participating countries. We wish them the best of luck in their careers!
