Benjamin Gaches joined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Fellow in February 2026. In this capacity, he primarily focuses on the development, coordination, and implementation of training courses for Dutch and foreign professionals from the security sector. His areas of expertise and working interest include international law, criminology, negotiation and mediation, and serious games and wargame design.
Before joining Clingendael, Benjamin worked as a training designer first for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and then as a freelancer. He is also currently pursuing a PhD studying the applicability of serious games to international criminological research at the University of Groningen.
Benjamin completed a bachelor's degree in Political Sciences and Development Studies at McGill University, Montreal, and an LLM in Peace operations, Humanitarian Law & Conflict at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, University of Galway.
