Matthieu Agustoni is an Academy Programme Fellow working within the Peace Negotiations and Humanitarian Negotiations Programmes of the Clingendael Academy. In this capacity, he develops, coordinates and provides trainings for locally and internationally active professionals in the fields of conflict resolution, mediation, negotiation and peacebuilding in conflict-affected or fragile contexts.

Before joining Clingendael, Matthieu worked with the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Serbia, where he supported the UN’s peacebuilding, governance, and transitional justice agenda in the Western Balkans through programme and strategy development and coordination. Prior to that, he worked on the Thai-Myanmar(Burma) border, where he conducted field-based research on human rights violations. These postings, grounded in locally-led approaches, shaped his understanding of peacebuilding, reconciliation and human rights. He also worked in the fields of integration and migration in Switzerland, and supported diplomatic engagement at the Embassy of Switzerland in Canada.

Matthieu holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy (cum laude) and a Master’s degree in Political Science (cum laude). His philosophical research has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals. He is fluent in French and English, has working proficiency in German and Dutch, and upper-intermediate proficiency in Japanese.
