The International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES), in association with the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael has published a volume 'Conflict and Violence in South Asia, edited by Professor K.M. de Silva. This book is the result of the joint research project between ICES and the Conflict Research Unit (CRU) of the Clingendael Institute. The volume (436 pages) examines a variety of protracted conflicts in the states of South Asia - Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The conflicts reviewed include separatist struggles, religious strife and social conflicts, including caste conflict and the militant peasant movements in India. The eight case studies contain empirical, detailed accounts of the conflicts concerned, but also offer theoretical insights.
