The Nuclear Knowledge Summit (NKS) was an official side event to the Nuclear Security Summit 2014 (link). The Clingendael Institute organized the NKS in Amsterdam on March 21st and 22nd in cooperation with the Fissile Material Working Group and the Asan Institute for Policy Studies.

The NKS brought together some 240 nuclear experts and NGO participants from all over the world to exchange knowledge, and to think about nuclear security without the political constraints that may hinder long term views and critical perspectives, while staying adjacent to the NSS agenda. Consequently, sensitive issues like military stockpiles of nuclear materials were discussed as well. After the NKS all experts returned to their countries with new ideas. In addition, some of the NKS experts attended the NSS to discuss the outcomes of the NKS, be interviewed by media and may provide input to policy makers, thus creating a ‘multiplier effect’ of increased knowledge on the topic of nuclear security.

All videos of the NKS, as well as much more background information, can be found on the official website: www.knowledgesummit.org

Proceedings of the conference will follow soon as well.
