Por un nuevo papel para España en el desarrollo político de Afganistán

15 Oct 2012 - 14:01

Faced with a young generation of Afghans that are more impressed by the goals of Cristiano Ronaldo and the songs of Shakira than by the heroics of Ahmed Shah Masoud, the international community should invest heavily in the youth of Afghanistan. The Afghan ''Facebook generation'', which is increasingly connected to the outside world, should be empowered with investments in foreign language, social media and IT courses, scholarships, job-related education, entrepreneurial skills and seed funding to start Small and Medium Enterprises. Investments in the Afghan youth can easily become our most successful and sustainable long-term endeavour, creating an ally that will be more aligned with the international community than with the ideology of the Taliban.
