This book analyses emerging trends and patterns in 21st century world politics. In particular, it re-examines international institutions and the various forms and practices of (digital) diplomacy.

The essays address the setting up of new cooperation architectures such as the Asian International Investment Bank and the role of emerging powers in global fora like G20, as well as changes through the use of digital governance. The contributors reflect on whether the existing institutions can be reformed or if the way forward will see the establishment of new structures given the recent shift in world power.

Senior research fellow Jan Melissen co-edited this book with Wilhelm Hofmeister of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. It is based on the Asia-Europe Think-Tank Dialogue which was held at the Clingendael Institute in 2015.
