Towards a Political Islam

An unfruitful debate rages on the issue of whether Islam is compatible with modernity, because it does not recognize the separation between politics and religion. In this paper Roel Meijer argues otherwise. In his view Islam, like all religions, is malleable and can be bent in whatever direction thinkers and ideologues want, and Islamic thought is in fact going through an exciting phase of development.
