Bangladeshi and Pakistani diplomats enhance skills

Clingendael

Over the course of four vibrant summer weeks, Clingendael Academy welcomed junior diplomats from Bangladesh and Pakistan for a comprehensive diplomatic training programme, designed to develop both their knowledge and practical skills essential for their careers.

The programme began with a focus on core competencies essential for 21st-century diplomats, followed by deep dives into international and regional cooperation, the rule of law, international security, and sustainable economic development. Participants also refined skills in policy reporting, negotiation, and speech writing. This year’s course included new, innovative didactical elements. Multiple sessions were tied together to create a setting that reflected the diplomat’s work processes during a foreign posting. This approach helped participants further understand how the different sessions contribute to their everyday work in the field of diplomacy.

Beyond lectures and workshops, the diplomats visited Dutch and European institutions, building professional networks along the way. A key highlight was a visit to Brussels, where they engaged with officials from the European External Action Service, the UN Industrial Development Organization, and NATO.

As the programme concluded, participants reflected on their personal and professional growth, emphasizing the practical value of the training and the strong bonds formed among each other. The strong connections developed throughout the training will undoubtedly support their future diplomatic endeavours. Clingendael Academy is proud of the diplomats' achievements and is grateful for the enriching exchanges and experiences. We look forward to seeing the impact they will have as they continue to serve their countries.
