Over the past decades, more than 9.000 foreign diplomats from 175 countries attended training courses at the Clingendael Academy. We highly value our alumni network and wish to foster connections between alumni. That is why Clingendael Academy expanded its offer of diplomatic training programmes with several workshops for Clingendael alumni. These three-day online workshops were designed especially for diplomats that attended a training course at Clingendael between 2010 and 2020.

Between February and June 2021, the Clingendael Academy organised a total of six different workshops for different regions.

Each workshop focused on three key elements:

  • Networking with fellow Clingendael alumni;

  • Focusing on current challenges or opportunities in the region;

  • Exchanging ideas for closer cooperation.

In addition to these key elements, every programme was tailored to fit specific needs and adapted to recent developments in the foreign practice. The workshops for African diplomats focused on regional challenges and cooperation, Asian diplomats worked on digital advocacy and economic security, diplomats from Latin America and the Caribbean learned how to influence effectively, and alumni from South-eastern Europe improved their strategic planning skills.

These successful first alumni workshops strengthen us in our beliefs that, as a diplomat, it is important to keep developing and learning throughout your career. Clingendael Academy is glad to be able to offer these courses, to help improve international and regional cooperation, and to strengthen our ever-growing alumni network.
