Fruitful training completed for South American Diplomats

This March, Clingendael Academy was honoured to welcome a group of eighteen junior diplomats from the South American continent to participate in a diplomatic training programme.

Over the course of three weeks, the group delved into key cross-cutting policy themes that face their region and the world today.

Naturally, the training course followed the Clingendael Method and combined expert lectures with practical skills sessions and working visits so that participants were able to not only learn about relevant international affairs and institutions but also experience its working processes.

A highlight of the programme was the ‘world café’ on regional cooperation in the South American region. Purposefully conducted at the beginning of the programme, the participating diplomats were able to learn from the great diversity within the group and able to take their group discussions in consideration for the preparation of other course elements, such as the visit to the European Institutions in Brussels. In addition, the interview carousel on human rights and development enabled participants to engage in important and meaningful discussions on Feminist Foreign Policy and the relation between human rights and crime.

We look back on a fruitful training course and wholeheartedly thank all participating diplomats for their insights, active contributions and warm personalities. We hope that their time in The Hague allowed the participants to foster strong relationships within the group and look forward to staying in touch with them throughout their diplomatic careers.
