Clingendael and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus have commenced their cooperation at this year’s annual meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and the Cypriot heads of diplomatic missions.

Last week, the heads of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Cyprus were invited to the ambassador's conference om Nicosia, Cyprus, with the purpose to better co-ordinate the exercise of the Republic`s foreign policy.

Economic and public diplomacy

The conference linked to the ongoing effort by the Cypriot Foreign Ministry to adapt to the needs and trends of modern diplomacy.

For this reason, trainers of Clingendael Academy, together with former Dutch ambassador Jan Gijs Schouten, provided two training sessions on the interlinked themes of economic and public diplomacy. During these interactive sessions, the Cypriot participants discussed their vision on these “twin policies”.

Successful moment of firsts

Both for Clingendael and Cyprus this was a successful moment of firsts:

  • Clingendael was for the first time invited to contribute to the Cypriot ambassador’s conference, and;
  • Cyprus added for the first time a training component to their ambassador’s conference
