Serbian minister of Foreign Affairs visits Clingendael

Monika Sie and Marko Đurić

A very timely visit to Clingendael amidst political turbulence in Serbia

On Monday 3 February, the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Đurić, paid a visit to the Clingendael Institute in The Hague. The visit came a week after Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević resigned following the protests in the wake of the Novi Sad station canopy collapse last November. Minister Đurić’ visited Clingendael prior to his bilateral exchange with Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Caspar Veldkamp.

During the roundtable, Minister Đurić elaborated on EU enlargement and Serbia’s accession to the EU, Serbian foreign policy priorities, and matters of European security and their effects on the Western Balkans region.

Following the Minister’s elaboration, Clingendael experts Saskia Hollander, Marina Ohanjanyan, Louise van Schaik, Raoul Bunskoek and Koen Aartsma discussed these topics with him, moderated by Clingendael’s General Director Monika Sie, and presented related Clingendael publications such as the Clingendael Strategic Monitor.

The roundtable – which was also attended by region experts, policy makers, politicians and journalists – proved to be a valuable contribution to the current discussions about Serbia, foreign policy and the EU.
