Successful First Edition of Advanced Training of Trainers for Humanitarians
From 16 - 18 July 2024, Clingendael Academy hosted an Advanced Training of Trainers programme for Humanitarians.
The participants were all alumni of the Academy’s earlier Humanitarian Negotiation Foundation, Advanced, and Training of Trainers programmes. Not only are they involved in humanitarian negotiations in their work themselves, each of them is also a facilitator in humanitarian negotiation skills.

The Advanced Training of Trainers was unique since it was a participant driven training. The programme was specifically tailored to the learning objectives and training needs of these humanitarians. During the three-day programme, participants were further equipped in their didactic skills, enabling them to share their expertise with their own colleagues and stakeholders in interactive ways. The programme included sessions on adapting and creating training resources, addressing more complex content on humanitarian negotiation such as power and ethics within negotiations and a workshop on emotion regulation.
The week was an opportunity to share training experiences and reflect among the community of Clingendael Training of Trainers alumni and trainers on how to continue to support capacity building of organisations. It was a pleasure to welcome these alumni back to Clingendael and learn from their training efforts and working contexts. We wish them the best of luck in their important work and look forward to continuing to support their training efforts.
