Isabel Albers joined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Fellow in March 2021, and became a Senior Academy Fellow in January 2025. In her role she manages, develops, and teaches programmes for foreign diplomats and international professionals. As an intercultural expert she aims to improve awareness with international professionals from various national and professional backgrounds.
Isabel leads the coordination of the course on international relations for young Dutch diplomats (IBBZ) as well as the Leergang Buitenlandse Betrekkingen (LBB); both flagship programmes at Clingendael. She also oversees the coordination of several training programmes for diplomats from the Americas.
She brings wide experience in training professionals from a variety of work environments and seniority, both in The Netherlands and abroad. Examples include public and private sector companies, diplomats and civil servants in The Netherlands and abroad, and security officials in the Dutch defense and police, at NATO, and in EU advisory missions.
Besides her work at Clingendael, Isabel also teaches the course ‘Intercultural Communication at Work’ for 2nd and 3rd year bachelor students at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
Prior to her work at Clingendael, Isabel worked as a project manager at a large translation company in the Netherlands, with a special focus on governmental translations. Before that, she worked on different projects at an educational institute.
Isabel holds a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature and a master’s degree in Intercultural Communication, both from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She was an intern at the Royal Tropical Institute, has studied in Valencia, Spain, and has visited many countries in South America.
