From 8 to 11 July 2024, the Clingendael Humanitarian Negotiation Team welcomed 20 women staff from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), working all over the world in diverse contexts, for an online Foundation Course in Negotiation Skills. This women-only training was piloted in the context of MSF’s ambition to support women in leadership positions.

During the training, participants delved into the theory, discussing the characteristics of an effective humanitarian negotiator, the different types and phases of a negotiation, as well as different conflict-handling modes and negotiation styles, amongst others. Participants had the opportunity to put the newly acquired knowledge into practice through several simulations, and to connect and exchange experiences with colleagues.

''The negotiations training was informative and empowering. I was able to learn about different negotiation styles and models. I will be more be more prepared to handle and support teams during negotiations'', remarks one of the participants.

The Clingendael team thoroughly enjoyed training this highly engaged group and thanks them for the fruitful discussions, as well as MSF for placing trust in Clingendael Academy to conduct this important training.
