Dr. Jeannine Suurmond is a Senior Academy Fellow for the Peace Negotiations Programme at Clingendael Academy. She designs and delivers training for negotiators and mediators supporting peace processes and contributes to Dutch military pre-deployment training and knowledge advancement in the field.

With over 20 years of experience in peacemaking and peacebuilding across Africa and Asia, she has lived and worked in Nepal, Cambodia, and Thailand. As a peacebuilding advisor for GIZ Nepal, she developed and implemented programmes on ex-combatant integration, transitional justice, and mediation. In Cambodia, she trained facilitators of Khmer Rouge victim-perpetrator dialogues with TPO and contributed to data-based policy development for SeeD. In Thailand, she trained government and civil society organizations in conflict resolution and facilitated interfaith dialogue. In the Netherlands, she supported Track 1 and Track 2 peace processes across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific for Kreddha.

Jeannine has led action research projects to reduce moral injury among Dutch police and military personnel in collaboration with Radboud University, the Netherlands Defence Academy, the Police Academy, the Veterans Institute, and the ARQ National Psychotrauma Centre. She has also worked as a psychologist in a refugee center.

She has taught at Leiden University, the University of Humanistic Studies, the Defence Academy, Radboud University, and the International School for Philosophy, as well as institutions in Nepal, Cambodia, and Thailand. Her research and publications focus on mediation, restorative justice, ex-combatant integration, infrastructures for peace, mental health and psychosocial support, and trauma and moral injury.

Jeannine holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from Utrecht University, a master’s in Cultural and Religion Psychology from the Free University of Amsterdam, and certifications in mediation, peacebuilding, and clinical psychology.
