Marie Wessling joined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Project Fellow in March 2026. In this capacity, she develops, coordinates, and implements a variety of training programmes tailored to diverse audiences, including diplomats from different regions. She previously worked at the Institute as an Academy intern and as HR officer.
Before joining Clingendael, Marie developed her interest in diplomacy during her time at the German Embassy in New Zealand, contributing to work on climate diplomacy, trade, and security developments in the Pacific. She was also engaged at Enactus, a network of young leaders committed to using business as a catalyst for positive social and environmental impact.
Marie holds a Cum Laude Advanced MSc in International Relations & Diplomacy (MIRD) from Leiden University. At the University of Groningen, Marie completed a BSc Liberal Arts and Sciences, majoring in economics, econometrics and international cooperation, as well as a BA Philosophy of Economic and Social Sciences. As part of her studies, she spent one semester at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in Italy.
