Cybersecurity experts engage in tailor-made negotiations seminar
Clingendael Academy and the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) joined forces to deliver a negotiations seminar tailored to the needs of cybersecurity professionals working in national and international contexts. This unique training was designed in close collaboration with the NCSC to reflect the specific work environment and challenges faced by its staff.
The seminar combined theoretical insights with hands-on simulations. Participants explored foundational concepts, including the seven phases of negotiations, the Positions-Interests-Needs (PIN) model, and the distinction between distributive and integrative strategies. A self-assessment exercise using the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument helped participants gain deeper insights into their personal conflict-handling styles to refine their negotiation tactics.
To ensure relevance, the simulations mirrored the participants' professional context, enabling them to apply negotiation theory to realistic scenarios. During the exercises, participants practiced using diverse tactics within defined mandates to advocate for organisational interests. A debrief and reflection session allowed them to consolidate their learning and concluded the seminar.
Clingendael Academy extends its gratitude to the NCSC for this successful collaboration, which underscores the importance of equipping cybersecurity professionals with strong negotiation skills.
