Developing intercultural insights in 3 days

Intercultural miscommunication isn’t always a conflict, it’s often invisible. A subtle gesture, a pause in conversation, a misunderstood e-mail.

Over the course of three days, participants at Clingendael explored how culture shapes the spoken and unspoken rules of interaction. Designed for professionals working in international and multicultural settings, the course offered a practical and reflective space to sharpen intercultural awareness and build confidence in navigating cultural complexity, both for starting and seasoned international professionals.

Through our PACIS Model of Intercultural Capacity (Pitfalls, Awareness, Clusters, Interaction and Sensitivity), participants gained insight into their own cultural lens and learned to spot and manage potential friction points in cross-cultural interactions. The course combined theoretical grounding with interactive methods, including roleplays, case discussions, and group reflections. In these exercises, participants reinforced the presented theory with examples from their respective national, regional, and organisational cultures.

Whether in negotiation, collaboration, or daily work, intercultural competence remains extremely vital. Knowing how to understand where cultural miscommunication comes from and being open to thinking outside the box.
