Clingendael and the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Studies Institute (EFRSSI) agreed upon a three year capacity building project, aimed at strengthening EFRSSI’s capacities. The project is supported and overseen by the Netherlands Embassy in Addis Ababa.

Recently Clingendael Academy director Ron Ton attended the project launch in Ethiopia where he signed the agreement between the institutes. Mr. Ton immediately gave the first capacity building workshop, aimed at the management of EFRSSI. The coming three years Clingendael will carry out several activities such as workshops in diplomacy and negotiation skills, scenario building, political writing and policy reporting and regional integration. Strategic management is also an important part of the cooperation.

A week after the project launch the first workshop on scenario building took place. Participants from several Ethiopian ministries and think tanks participated in the session in which several scenarios on regional stability in the Horn of Africa were discussed. The need for more regional cooperation as well as strengthening regional institutions to resolve (intrastate) conflict was emphasized.
