14 April 2015 - At the time when the Heads of State and Government of the Americas came together in Panamá City for the Seventh Summit of the Americas, the Clingendael Academy welcomed for the first time a group of diplomats from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Thirteen junior diplomats from Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Trinidad and Tobago are currently in The Hague to participate in a four-week training programme called ‘Enabling Closer Cooperation’.

Strengthening regional cooperation

One of the objectives of this course is to contribute to greater regional cooperation by offering a platform for the exchange of knowledge and views both with each other as with experts and practitioners from the Netherlands and Europe as a whole.

Welcoming diplomats from all over the world

Adding this region to its network, the Clingendael Academy now offers training courses to diplomats from the whole world representing the Netherlands, South East and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Each year, the Clingendael Academy welcomes over 500 diplomats, representing one fifth of the total of 2,500 participants annually.
