Recently, the Clingendael Academy welcomed 12 senior diplomats from the Sahel and the Maghreb regions for a francophone training programme on peace and stability. The primary goals of the training programme were to address issues of peace and stability in the region and to promote regional cooperation.

During their stay in the Hague, the participants were given the opportunity to talk to experts on topics such as natural resources, food (in)security, migration, and international security. Additionally, they participated in several workshops, including intercultural communication, international negotiations and effective leadership with the aim of further enhancing their valuable skill sets within the context of more effective international and regional cooperation.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the participants were able to converse with each other and share their expertise, experiences and ideas on how stability and peace can be reached and sustained in the Sahel and the Maghreb by addressing the challenge(s) through different lenses.
