Dr. Pieter Zwaan is Senior Research Fellow on EU Agricultural Policy at EU & Global Affairs Unit. He is also appointed as an Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer in Public Administration at the Institute for Management Research of Radboud University in Nijmegen. His work focusses on multi-level governance and collaborative governance; the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of (EU) policy; and the use of evidence in policy making processes, mostly in the domains of agricultural and environmental policy.

He holds Master’s degree in (Strategic) Spatial Planning and Comparative Politics from Radboud University, Nijmegen and completed his PhD in Public Administration and Policy at Wageningen University with a dissertation on the tensions between national policy ambition and EU policies (“Struggling with Europe”) in 2012.

He has (co-)authored numerous book chapters and international articles in journals like Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of European Integration, Journal of Common Market Studies and Sociologia Ruralis and has been involved in commissioned research for the Dutch Parliament, the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Dutch provinces.
