Last week Clingendael trained representatives of Syria’s main opposition alliance, the Syrian National Coalition.

Several trainers coached the group in The Hague on international negotiation skills. Clingendael developed the programme on demand of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, partly in conjunction with Stratagem International.

Opposition forces

The programme focussed on the use of different strategies and the influence of psychology in negotiation processes.

The participants are representatives of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, commonly named the Syrian National Coalition. They are mostly top executives in politics, business and science.

Diplomatic processes

Trainer Wilbur Perlot: 'The participants were challenged to enlarge their experience in diplomatic processes and to sharpen their negotiation skills.

'This is very important for future negotiations, for the mutual coordination and cooperation with the international community.'

Every year Clingendael trains over a thousand professionals at the Clingendael Academy. Read more about the Clingendael training programmes.
