From 5-7 February, lovely but hot and humid Abidjan (Cote d’ Ivoire) hosted Clingendael Academy’s second negotiation skills training for French-speaking humanitarian aid workers. The participants represented UNOCHA, Croix Rouge de Cote d’ Ivoire, IRC, Humanité et Inclusion, Catholic Relief Services, INTERSOS, Save the Children, Plan International and Association de Barreau American et Benevolat  pour l’ Enfance.

The participants from West and Central Africa came together to benefit from Clingendael’s practical toolset and interactive teaching method. Through the lens of Clingendael’s focus on the processes of negotiation and the skills required to function within that process, participants also benefitted from each other’s input regarding the various conflict zones in which they operate.

The group also benefitted from a reflective session on the opportunities and challenges to further embed negotiation practices in their respective organisations.

Participants had heard about this training from alumni of previous trainings held in the region who recommended our course to them as it meets a real demand in the region.

Our next training opportunity in French will take place in Kigali (Rwanda) from 7-9 May. Check our calender for this and other opportunities.
