Max joined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Programme Fellow in 2018. He is an expert on EU decision-making, in particular on migration, climate and health policy. He trains diplomats, civil servants and other professionals in EU related skills, focusing on effective influencing, interest representation and multilateral negotiations.
Max has provided skills trainings and EU seminars to over 1000 multinational professionals. He has worked for the European Diplomatic Programme, as well as various national and EU authorities, and has provided skills trainings to civil servants from three EU member states in the run-up to their Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Before joining Clingendael, Max worked as policy advisor at Leiden University and Erasmus University Rotterdam, in addition to working as a freelance public speaking trainer and writer.
He holds an MSc in Political Science from Leiden University and a BA in History from Erasmus University Rotterdam. During his studies, he did internships at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
