Adriaan Zondag is Head of Academy Programme Diplomacy at the Clingendael Institute since 2022. Adriaan is manager of Clingendael Academy’s diplomatic training programmes and Academy Fellows involved in the diplomatic training programmes. In this programme Clingendael Academy organises over 45 tailor made training projects per year for more than 750 diplomats from over 120 different countries. This includes multiple week residential trainings in The Hague, on-site training programmes and capacity building programmes at diplomatic academies abroad, and online training programmes. Adriaan designs and implements training programmes for diplomats and civil servants, conducts capacity-building programmes for other training institutes, and provides diplomatic skill trainings and workshops in foreign policy making & international law.

Adriaan worked as Political Assistant to the Minister for Trade & Development Cooperation, as a Senior Policy Officer on Foreign & EU Affairs in the Netherlands House of Representatives (2019-2020), and as consultant public sector & EU Affairs at Berenschot. Between 2014 and 2019, Adriaan worked at Clingendael Academy as Training & Research Fellow. In this capacity he developed and organised dozens of diplomatic training programmes and capacity building projects and provided skills trainings and workshops to hundreds of professionals in international affairs. Adriaan holds an MA in International Relations and studied International Law at Utrecht University.
