Mark Elchardus, Ph.D., studied sociology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium and the Brown University, Rhode Island, USA. He is Prof.em. at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His empirical research has focused mainly on the formation of attitudes and beliefs, the institutions and media influencing that process, and is consequences for politics and policy. He published in among others Time and Society; Poetics; Work, Employment and Society; Sociological Perspectives; Social Science Quarterly; and Cultural Sociology, and is author, co-autor or editor of about fifty books, most recently Voorbij het narratief van neergang (2015).
